"You know what? Everyone thinks I can't do this. My brother up there wants to watch me fail. Just to prove them wrong, I am gonna win this." ― Mireya, vs. Tel-Eth

Mireya is an incredibly bizarre being. Brought into the world as an artificial lifeform created for super regeneration abilities but born to a dolphin mother for convenience, Mireya isn't exactly the most normal person. Not that she cares, especially since she has the fairly unique ability of being able to regenerate from just about any conceivable attack. Still, it's something to note, especially as it's gained her a mentor in the form of her creator, Rishi, and a number of enemies who despise her for her bizarreness in several ways.

Looks[]

In terms of looks, Mireya is a reasonably normal hedgewolf, if short. She possesses dark blue fur and has three thick spines that stick out of the back of her head in an equilateral triangle formation (with one point facing downward). She also has a furry light gray muzzle and dark green eyes.

In terms of attire, Mireya wears a bright purple short-sleeved shirt, light gray pants (usually with her low-end Kablephone in one pocket and her first-aid kit in the other), and light gray boots with slight heels to boost her height, as she is far below average in height and can't move fast anyway, so the extra inch helps her see and reach a little higher. She also wears a pair of black fingerless gloves to help her grip her H-Blades somewhat better.

Personality[]

Mireya is generally fairly amiable, although she is also quiet and tends to get lost in thought when unoccupied. However, despite her usual friendliness and quietness, she is easily angered if someone insults her or her family. Worse, she tends to physically attack those who anger her, forgetting in her rage that others don't heal as easily as she does. When returned to normal, though, she'll feel terrible for any harm that she's caused to others and may attempt to apply her questionable first-aid skills to help them heal.

Strengths and Powers[]

Mireya's main superpower is her ability to regenerate from any attack. The bigger the attack, the longer it takes; for example, a regular knife wound will heal in a couple of seconds, whereas something that blows her apart into several pieces may take hours or even days to regenerate, but she will recover from it, no matter how improbable that seems. Absolute annihilation is another question, but Rishi is fairly confident that she could withstand it (although, for obvious reasons, he's never tried it).

Mireya also has low-to-moderate skill with H-Blades, blades in the shape of the ancient Greek letter Heta ( Heta ). She has carried two of these with her regularly since she began training with Rishi, and is able to dish out some pretty severe damage with them if she can land a hit.

Finally, Mireya has some skill in first-aid from all the times that her parents have needed to help her fix harm done to other people in her vicinity, and will usually carry a first-aid kit to help with this if need be. Unfortunately, she has to use it on a regular basis just because of her temperament.

Weaknesses[]

Mireya is fairly slow, both in speed and in reflexes. This, combined with her large and clunky H-Blades, makes her easy to hit. Also, Mireya is quick to anger, making it easy for her to be distracted by someone while someone else puts a plan into action. In terms of non-combat weaknesses, Mireya's tendency to physically attack people who insult her makes her a liability to any team that she's on.

A somewhat less-known weakness of Mireya's is that poisons work unexpectedly well on Mireya, due to the fact that her regenerative abilities largely revolve around regeneration of lost material, but countering poisons requires destruction of corrupted material. As such, while Mireya will recover from being poisoned, if she were to be lethally poisoned, it would have basically the same effect on her as though she were exploded, but with no external changes (i.e. it would take a couple of days to recover). This is probably the one easily accessible way to disable her for any significant amount of time.

History[]

Yarden and Anar Seldon weren't ready to give up on having kids yet. Sure, they'd already had four kids and their income wasn't stellar, but life was dangerous in Metropolis Central and so they wanted as many kids as possible just in case. However, they hadn't been able to have a kid for seven years. As a result, their fifth child wound up coming into existence in a very unusual fashion…

Anar was wandering in a back alleyway of Metropolis, somewhat drunk from an earlier experience, when she encountered a stranger named Rishi. This Rishi had been looking into creating an artificial lifeform and was ready to do so, but needed it to be born from a Mobian instead of being created in a lab, and, upon seeing Anar wandering by, managed to get out of her the fact that she wanted another baby but couldn't get one. Rishi managed to get the drunk Anar to agree to having the artificial lifeform magically transported inside of her to be born as her child, thus giving the lifeform a future home and allowing it to develop as intended. Due to Anar's drunken state, she forgot the entire experience by the next morning.

Yarden and Anar were very pleased to have another child a few months later, assuming that it was by some miracle that they were able to have another child. This child, who they named Mireya, initially appeared to be perfectly normal, apart from the glaring trait of being a hedgewolf when both of her parents were dolphins. However, Mireya quickly started developing much faster than a normal child, having reached the physical and mental state of a 3-year-old in one year. Her parents, concerned about what could cause this, decided that five kids was probably enough and that they should keep an eye on Mireya for the time being.

Mireya's unusual development speed started slowing down after a couple of years, reaching an 8-year-old state in 3 years and then going one year per year after that. When the speed stopped, though, the other bizarre changes started. Highly beneficial, but bizarre nonetheless. When a 9-year-old Mireya (4 years after her birth) was stopped after school and attacked by a group of bullies (having made a number of enemies due to her abnormalities), Mireya got into a fight with them, causing one of them to accidentally inflict on her a wound that would have been lethal to any normal being. However, Mireya oddly didn't have any negative effects from this, returning home completely unscathed. Her parents were, of course, relieved that their child was still alive, but were perplexed as to how their daughter could have such bizarre regenerative abilities. That wouldn't come out for a few years.

At about 13 years of physical age (8 years biologically), Mireya encountered Rishi, the man responsible for her creation. Rishi explained that he was partially responsible for her creation, changing the story just enough to make it seem as though her parents weren't doing anything foolish, but keeping enough to explain why she had such unusual powers and development. He then offered to help her hone her skills, as he knew them better than she did to a certain extent. When Mireya went home and told Yarden and Anar everything that Rishi had told her, asking if she could get help from him to learn how to use her unusual traits properly, her parents agreed, giving her the tools to become one of the most unique and valuable fighters ever seen…

Statistics[]

This character's sixstat code is 331249

  • Health: 3 – Mireya has average resistance to damage. While her godly levels of regeneration allow her to take seemingly endless numbers of normal hits, anything that would knock out a normal person with one hit will do the same to Mireya.
  • Damage: 3 – Mireya's H-Blades are potentially very powerful, but Mireya is somewhat unskilled with them, causing her overall damage to be about average.
  • Speed: 1 – Mireya is kind of slow. She's not going to be able to jump out of the way of an attack, even if it's going to be massively damaging. Her best bet is to drop to the ground and wait for it to sail past.
  • Reflexes: 2 – Mireya's reflexes are below-average. Living in Metropolis means that her reflexes can't be too low or she'd suffer greatly, and she's had some training from Rishi in this regard, but they're still worse than average.
  • Intelligence: 4 – Despite Mireya's young physical and mental age and younger biological age, Mireya is still able to come up with fairly good plans from careful analysis of her opponent's abilities. This may take a while, though, causing her intelligence to simply seem above-average.
  • Regen: 9 – This is where Mireya really shines, as she is able to regenerate from absolutely any attack, no matter how destructive.

Fun Facts[]

  • The name Mireya has two distinct meanings; sometimes cited as "miracle"[1] (the meaning that I used, alluding to the "miraculous" circumstances of her birth), it is cited at other times as "admired".[2] Additionally, despite this first meaning, the actual word for "miracle" in Spanish is "milagro".[3]
  • The contention over this name has caused the above bullet point to be changed twice as I talked with Spanish-speaking family members (leading me to find out the real word in Spanish for "miracle" and thus to implement this change), then did research and found out that Mireya still means "miracle" regardless (leading me to implement this change).
  • Mireya set a record for fastest article written by me at just under an hour and a half. This was bypassed by Leland's article, which beat this time by ten minutes.
